Overview
The 991.2 turbocharged the entire Carrera range with the 3.0 L 9A2. On paper it is a clear win: a 991.2 Carrera makes more torque, lower down, than a 991.1 Carrera S, and returns better economy doing it. It also finally modernised the infotainment, which is a bigger day-to-day improvement than the engine change.
What it gave up was top-end character, and the reaction to that is precisely why the naturally aspirated 4.0 L GT3 of the same era became the car everyone now wants — with a manual option restored and a wingless Touring variant for people who wanted the engine without the statement.
For buying purposes these are different cars from the 991.1 in the ways that cost money: different engine family, different intercooling and turbo plumbing, and a particulate filter in the emissions path. Shop the era, not the chassis code.
